Plakatausstellung: Mikroplastik in unserem Lebensumfeld

ikroplastik findet man überall: in der Arktis, auf dem Mount Everest   und in den Tiefen der Ozeane. Aber wie sieht es direkt bei uns vor und hinter der Haustüre aus? Auf vier Postern werden die Aufgaben des Sonderforschungsbereichs Mikroplastik der Universität Bayreuth präsentiert und Ergebnisse studentischer Analysen von Umweltproben: Wasserproben aus dem roten Main, Bodenproben der Mainauen und Muscheln aus der Regnitz.

Und das Ergebnis? Es ist überall! Aber „das“ Mikroplastik gibt es nicht: es besteht aus verschiedensten Arten Kunststoff, die in verschiedenen Größen und Formen vorkommen, unterschiedliche Beimengungen von einer Vielzahl von Chemikalien beinhalten, welche die Eigenschaften der Kunststoffe bedingen, sowie weitere physikalisch-chemische Eigenschaften, welche sich auch fortlaufend durch Umwelteinflüsse verändern. Und jede Eigenschaft kann spezifische Auswirkungen auf Pflanzen, Tiere, Mikroorganismen und somit auf gesamte Ökosysteme haben. Daher ist es wichtig, das Bewusstsein zu schaffen, dass wir den Plastikkonsum reduzieren, unnötiges vermeiden und den Eintrag in die Umwelt verhindern. Das wird aber nicht ausreichen, deshalb müssen wir Lösungen finden, dass unvermeidlicher Abrieb von Kunststoffen Eigenschaften aufweist, die unbedenklich sind.

Poster exhibition: Microplastics in our living environment

Microplastics can be found everywhere: in the Arctic, on Mount Everest and in the depths of the oceans. But what does it look like right in front of and behind our front door? The tasks of the University of Bayreuth's Collaborative Research Centre Microplastics and the results of student analyses of environmental samples will be presented on four posters: Water samples from the red Main, soil samples from the Main floodplains and mussels from the Regnitz.

And the result? It's everywhere! But there is no such thing as ‘the’ microplastic: it consists of various types of plastic that come in different sizes and shapes, contain different admixtures of a variety of chemicals that determine the properties of the plastics, as well as other physico-chemical properties that are also constantly changing due to environmental influences. And each property can have specific effects on plants, animals, microorganisms and thus on entire ecosystems. It is therefore important to raise awareness of the need to reduce plastic consumption, avoid unnecessary use and prevent it from entering the environment. However, this will not be enough, so we need to find solutions to ensure that unavoidable plastic abrasion has properties that are harmless.
