Vortrag und Labor Tour

Berichtet wird über die aktuelle Situation der Mikroplastikbelastung der Umwelt und zeigt Forschungsprojekte, die dem Verständnis der Entstehung, des Transports und der Effekte auf die Umwelt und auf Organismen dienen. Welche Risiken drohen für Umwelt und Gesundheit wegen der zunehmenden Belastung und welche Lösungswege werden erforscht und vorangebracht.

Bei der anschließenden Labor-Führung werden die verschiedenen Analyseverfahren und -methoden zur Detektion der Mikroplastikkontamination, wie beispielsweise das FTIR- Spektrometer (Fourier-Transformations-Infrarotspektrometer) gezeigt und erläutert. Zudem werden unsere Modell-Organismen vorgestellt und erklärt, warum die Gesundheit von Wasserflöhen wichtig für unsere Süßgewässer ist und welchen Erkenntnisgewinn wir für uns Menschen daraus ziehen können.  Des Weiteren wird das Meeres-Aquarium mit seinen Bewohnern besucht und dargelegt welche Auswirkungen Umweltverschmutzung, wie die Kontamination mit Plastikmüll und Mikroplastik, für diesen Lebensraum haben kann.

Lecture and Laboratory Tour

It reports on the current situation of microplastic pollution in the environment and shows research projects that serve to understand the formation, transport and effects on the environment and organisms. What risks threaten the environment and health due to the increasing pollution and what solutions are being researched and advanced.

During the subsequent laboratory tour, the various analytical procedures and methods for detecting microplastic contamination, such as the FTIR spectrometer (Fourier transform infrared spectrometer), are shown and explained. In addition, our model organisms will be presented and it will be explained why the health of water fleas is important for our freshwaters and what knowledge we can gain from this for us humans.  We will also visit the marine aquarium with its inhabitants and explain the effects that environmental pollution, such as contamination with plastic waste and microplastics, can have on this habitat.
